Indian Classical Music

Indian classical music derives from major traditions like Hindustani and Carnatic.

Hindustani is originate from North Indian music tradition and Carnatic is originates from Southern part of India. Both emphasize more on exploring all aspects of raga. 

Indian classical music has two major foundation stones, Raga and Taal. The Raga is purely based on the melodic structure called Swar and Taal is a time cycle which provides creative set of rhythms.

Rāga (राग) originates from a Sanskrit word. The term actually refers to transferring your emotional feelings to classical music. It is actually a pillar to Indian classical music. All are well aware of Swara's used in Raga's - Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni. 

Tala plays a vital role in India classical music. The tala in north Indian sangeet is referred as Hindustani Sangeet where as in South it is more referred to Carnatic. Tala is more on support for Musical rythms, voice, musical form and expression with classical music.

The various forms of common compositions known are Dhrupad, Khyal, Tarana, Thumri, Dadra, Gazal, and Bhajan.

Indian Instruments

SWARA's are another form of music to support or build scale and methods to classical music formation. As mentioned, the basics - Sa  Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni are  collectively known as Sargam forms melody to classical music. 

Indian Musical Instruments are playing vital role in classical music era from the beginning. All instruments are majorly classified based on String instruments, Wind instruments, drums specific and so on. The list of Indian music instruments is huge The ones that are listed is a subset that are most commonly played.

Indian Light Music

Light music is often called Sugam or Bhav Sangeet which is quite popular nowadays and considered as songs which is pleasant to hear and suits to the correct atmosphere, occasions, situation etc.  Light music is generally smaller form of western classical music .

Light music generally or not necessarily requires musical technical detailing or knowledge of RAGAS. The popular bhajan's and film songs are best examples of Light Music in Indian culture.
